From Prison - To All Christians: Be Humble Servants of Jesus Christ (10 March, 2024)

Written from prison during his trial before Ceasar, whereupon the outcome might mean either life or death for him, the Apostle Paul addresses his letter to all the holy ones (saints) at Phillipi.

Yet, Paul was not concerned for himself, but for the believers at Phillipi and the messenger Epaphroditus they had sent to him in Rome.

The words to this song are based on a passage from Paul's letter (Philippians 2: 5-11) thought to contain the lyrics of a very early Christian hymn.

In our time, these words remain an appropriate reminder for all Christians everywhere to adopt the attitude of Christ, one of total humility and self-less-ness.

This rendition musically underscores Jesus' very nature as God the Son, equal with God the Father, then His emptying Himself, in complete humility and obedience to His Father, even to death on a Roman cross!

The music then builds to God's high exaltation of His Son, His Son's Holy Name, and the biblical prophecies that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of His Father, God Almighty!

Does Jesus Care? (25 February, 2024)

Here’s a new song based on an old hymn I recently recorded with my friend Carter Green (who plays a terrific blues guitar solo).

I wrote some new music for it, and used the words I found in a hymnbook, singed by fire, that belonged to my grandmother Deutschendorf. It survived a fire that burned her house to the ground in the early 1960s. She lost her husband in 1943, and undoubtedly experienced much heartache and loneliness in the long years afterwards.

In 1943, two of her children were fighting in World War II and the rest were living on the farm, the youngest in diapers.

Yet she believed always that Jesus does care for us. I believe that too.

I used most of the lyrics from the original hymn, but created a new melody, based on the blues. That genre seemed to me to be the most fitting.

My hope is perhaps you may derive some comfort from this story, or the words from the hymn or from the song itself.

My Confession (12 February, 2024)

If you are striving to "hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering" this song is not just my own, it is yours too! It is freely given, as was Christ's atoning sacrifice for the cosmos! Please be encouraged by it, and use it to "encourage one another, all the more as you see the day drawing near!"

Christ gives me strength amidst my weakness.

He gives me grace through faith in Him.

Even death shall not defeat me,

For by His power I’ll rise again!

The Peace of GOD (12 June, 2020)

Anxious? Troubled? This beautiful song answers the question, How could Paul and Silas, unjustly beaten and thrown into prison, sing hymns of praise to GOD.

The answer: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to GOD. And the Peace of GOD, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7

Faith Supposes Difficulties (27 January, 2019)

Why do things happen as they do? Why is God silent at times in response to our requests? Why doesn't He always give us the answer that we desire?

Perhaps, like the Canaanite woman, our faith needs an opportunity to be exercised. Even in the midst of great difficulty may we answer Him as did she, "Yes, Lord!"

This song is performed in the blues music genre, as that music aptly fits the bible's story-line of a woman who was doing everything right and seemingly getting no-where.

Come To Me (19 January, 2019)

For those weary from life's heavy loads, here are encouraging words:Jesus Christ said all who come to Him will find rest for their souls. Please listen to this comforting song and reflect on He who is gentle and humble of heart.

Which Parts of the Bible Can We Safely Ignore Today? (14 November, 2018)

Many people live their lives deliberately ignoring the words written in the Bible. Of these, a significant number call themselves Christians. This song, based on the Word of God, asks simple questions. How would you answer? How would you respond?

Which parts of the Bible

Can we safely ignore today?

How many are the scriptures

We chose not to obey?

When the words that we discard

From the Truth, the Life, the Way

Will forever stand

Against us.

If you like deep bass singers coupled with New Orleans-style jazz, this upbeat medley should put a smile on your face! My uncle David Deutschendorf, who sings with The New Christy Minstrels, gets LOW DOWN and DEEP! It was a joy to get to sing along with him! That's Carter Green on the trombone AND the guitars!

Some of my favorites:

Hosanna Hallelujah: a song about the ascension of Jesus Christ and His return.

An upbeat Psalm of Solomon with awesome guitar work courtesy of Carter Green: Unless the Lord (Psalm 127).

Father of Mercies/Abide With Me has been played at the bedside of folks sick or dying. It is a very gentle song offering comfort from the Father of Mercies and the God of All Comfort.

Surrounded? Outnumbered? Circumstances pretty dire for you? Here’s the true story of Elisha and his servant: Elisha’s Servant’s Song (Chariots of Fire).

An old hymn of faith paired with some get-down and celebrate music – this should chase the blues far, far away: His Eye is on the Sparrow.
